I counted 27 Common Loons on Red House Lake this morning! One flock had 22 birds in it the other 5 were scattered birds around the lake (prob ones that have been here the past few days).

I am a naturalist, field biologist and nature photographer from the Western New York area. I have started exploring nature writing through this blog and it truly has been fun sharing my numerous adventures with everyone. I have always had a latent interest in birds and photography and have been lucky enough to find time to explore these interests over the last few years. Hi Friend,
I was just visiting my parents in Friendship (and my who sister lives in Franklinville) over the holiday weekend and saw at least a half dozen loons, several hooded mergansers and some large ducks with a lot of white on their bodies that I believe were goldeneyes (they were a bit far away for our binoculars).
There’s a lot of water in western ny right now. Ischua creek was running over!
