Bluebirds are in the yard!

I heard my first Eastern Bluebird singing around the nest boxes in the backyard today. It is amazing how a simple little song can get someone so excited! I suddenly went into dream-land thinking about what I should be expecting throughout the summer in my boxes . . . .

. . . . the dream starts with the birds singing and nest building throughout the spring months . . . . .

. . . . one day I find myself looking into the nest box and locating a handful of brilliantly blue eggs . . . .

. . . . few weeks later those eggs turn into featherless baby birdies . . . .

. . . . the feathers quickly fill in the body and soon the nestlings are old enough to be banded . . . .

This whole process quickly went through my head before waking up and hearing that male Bluebird sing a few more times! This singing Eastern Bluebird put a huge ass smile on my face!

Ahh, the feeling that Spring is finally coming is a great one. I have not seen any bluebirds, yet, but I will be on the look-out, now.

What wonderful photographs. You are so right about the birds and their songs. I dragged myself out to walk the dogs this morning…before coffee. Suddenly an Eastern Towhee sang his little heart out and gave my own heart a big lift.

Well, that does it. This weekend I’m going to go out looking for bluebirds. I know just the spot, too. With no leaves to hide them I should see some if they are there.

I love these photos.
One of my faves is hearing the Red-Winged Blackbirds when they first arrive. Beautiful song 🙂

My pair have already been busy, busy, busy, and yesterday I found the first beautiful nest for the season, already constructed and ready for the eggs. Huge ass smile indeed! :c)

Terrific. I’ve seen bluebirds off and on all winter but they seem to be back in force over the past week. It’s Spring!

I just cannot believe your hooking up with bluebirds.. They don’t even visit us until May (okay… okay maybe I say this because my bluebird boxes sit open awaiting a good cleaning…) Okay we’ll get busy this weekend. I love these shots! What a lovely way of cataloguing the steps of these very lovely birds!

We only get the western bluebird a few months out of the year and they are the most skittish birds in the yard. They can see me from yards away and fly off.
