Swimming Buck
By: Pat Coate
Was lucky enough to spend some time at a cottage on a beautiful lake in Ontario recently. I looked up from my breakfast one rainy morning to see a brown blob swimming out from the bay. I thought “Hmm, that’s an awfully big bird”. When I got the binoculars on it, it was quite clear that it was not a bird at all!
At one point the deer appeared to turn in towards land. But then it seemed to change its mind and it headed out across the lake – about a mile to the other side. I guess hormones can make them do crazy things. I hope he made it and that the females were impressed.
Deer are quite competent swimmers, and he should have made it without much trouble.

Cathy knew she wanted to have my children after seeing me swim the English Channel (twice in one afternoon).

what a lovely sequence of photos; nature here in the Uk isn’t quite so dramatic but if you’re interested take a peek at my blog perhaps

I enjoyed your blog. The battle of the mute swans sounded very dramatic! Glad for the escape.
Thanks for stopping by.
