More Spring Arrivers

Eastern Phoebe
Eastern Phoebe

Since returning from Chincoteague Island, the birds have been quickly following me northward into the Western New York area. Yesterday while assisting with the stocking of Trout along some of the Steams, I finally heard my first of the year Winter Wren (CHECK) who was singing its beautiful complex song. Later in the evening I observed the American Kestrel (CHECK first of the year) as it was wagging its tail at me! Finally this morning I got my first of the year Eastern Phoebe (CHECK) was proudly yelling fee-bee . . . . fee-bee around the office! (((SMILE))) I just love this time of the year!

Yes, I am falling behind in editing all my Chincoteague pictures (sorry this is a fun time of the year with the birds!) . . . . Yesterday I adventured up to Chautaugua Lake area searching for the White Pelicans that were first located the day I was leaving for Virginia. They were observed all weekend but of course as soon as I return they had disappeared. When I do finally locate these birdies, this would become another lifer that I will be adding to my checklist. CHEERS! I am having a great year with adding lifers to my checklist!

I promise more to come on my trip to Chincoteague!

  3. I love the chatter outside in the mornings. Little birds are fighting at the feeders and grabbing mouthfuls of grasses. We wait a long time for this time of year!

  4. My Phoebes are so very loud in the mornings! It’s so funny to hear them literally screaming their fee-bee, fee-bee! Love all the spring visitors!

Winter Wren arrived?? They are only migrants here. I don’t get to see one every year. They are so sweet.

  6. Come the Keokuk, IA and see White Pelicans to your hearts content. We observed enormous flocks of them all summer last year due to the floods. Such graceful birds despite their size!

  7. Our Phoebes still are checking out our front porch–I think they might build a nest there this year. I don’t think I have seen a winter wren–but lots of Carolina Wrens. Lovely photos.

I just love this time of year. Right now I’d say it’s my favorite…although that seems to change with the seasons!

  9. Cute Phoebe, and nice job capturing the WIWR – they’re moderately common here in season, but rarely give much of a look.

I hope the white pelicans stay where they’re at in Illinois for a week or so–we got snow predicted for Sunday again! Can you believe it?

  13. I saw a Winter Wren on one of my frequented trails all winter. I don’t know their pattern of migration at all. There have been many Am Kestrels around in the past month too. They are one of my favourite birds.

  17. Beautiful bird pictures. Thanks for sharing. I have a lot of decent pics as well. But basically just ones where I live. But they are just as beautiful to me as other parts of the world are. I love them all. Thanks again.
