  4. Gorgeous! I had my first downy this past fall. My husband first spotted it visiting our then empty bluebird box, which sits very near some staghorn sumacs on our property.

  9. The cutest of all woodpeckers. I have a pair of downys (or is it downies?) pretty much only in the winter. They love the suet. I love your photo. The black and white is set off nicely with the red sumac.

  22. Great contrast and colour. I think I remember you saying that sumac was a bit on the toxic side for some birds and was only eaten when they were very hungry.
