My life is about living with nature – here you can live it with me!

Change of Plans!

I first intended this post to include a wonderful in-depth discussion on Eastern Skunk Cabbage!! But, things just continue to occur which has kept me from writing it (high school friend called, cat puked, ect…)! So, I have decided that instead of writing a half ass post that I am going to hold off till tomorrow. I hope this White-tailed Deer video clip that I captured on Sunday will make up for my laziness.

Although, I am pleased to report more signs of spring are still becoming apparent! Today I saw my first Red-shouldered Hawk this season displaying high up in the sky. CHECK – Great part is that I didn’t see one, but three different males displaying in three different locations here in Allegany State Park! Even though they wouldn’t allow me to photograph them, they are still my favorite of all hawks!

  1. You didn’t scare it off. I swear that I have more pictures of birds high tailing it out of my yard than any other picture. I always want to get even closer.

  2. I stopped the video, moved a little closer and then she was gone before I could touch the button! I think I got a little bit in her personal space with those few steps!

  3. I think RSHA are my favorites, too. They have such sweet faces, even though they are uber fierce.
Come to my house. We have 2 pairs of them wheeling across the sky!

  4. Susan! They also are fun to watch! I will get some shots of them but today they were just having too much fun way up high in the sky! They need to come down in camera range one of these days!

  5. Argh! Forgot to leave a comment here before bed – sorry!
Hmmm, you lazy? I don’t think so! Not after cleaning cat stuff and talking with your friends!
Cool video! She didn’t like you trying to get closer!
Hopefully the red tailed hawks will come down closer so you can capture them!

  6. Hmmmm. Skunk cabbage or cute deer being terrorized by a camera-weilding stalker? Yea, Mon@rch, I’m going to go for the deer video! Thanks!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  7. She had her eye on you, Mon@rch. I love your video clips. We have so many hawks in the sky it isn’t even funny. But I do get shots? Nope. I did take a photo of 8-10 hawks circling together but I was like 1 mile away.

  8. I have never gotten a decent picture of a hawk in the sky. I either get a blurry speck or a blurry nothing! Looking foreward to your skunk cabbage post!

  9. One man’s lazy is another man’s “wow… he posts every day!”. And deer in snow is always welcome.

  10. Great deer clip! I love RSHA’s too, although they’ve always been good at eluding my attempts to photograph them save for a few grainy, blurry shots!

Looking forward to the “fully-assed” skunk-cabbage post 😉

  11. @ Pam – I just don’t spend the time with them as I should be or I would have some shots!
@ liz – Skunk Cabbage is also fun but this deer was ignoring me and then, what’s that! Ran away!
@ Mary – Shots never do turn out like we always want them to!
@ Lynne – I have yet to get to that article ! Will sooner or later though! But did get a bunch of house work done this evening!
@ Marty – We all can be lazy sometimes! Although, probably be no post tonight!
@ Adam – thanks and have many of those shots! Will try to get to it ASAP!

  12. Thanks for the deer clip – they may be more common than dirt, but I love deer anyway. I’m in awe of how you manage to put clips on your blog anyway. Don’t stop 🙂
