My Christmas Bird Count 2010
Patty and I participated in the Saint Bonaventure Christmas Bird Count for the Cattaraugus County Bird Club in section 3 today as we do every year. Since I have moved over to Chautauqua County . . . . I had the opportunity to show my territory to Lisa who is new to the area and looking for a count spot to do. This probably will not be my last CBC with Catt. Co but this will give me the chance to explore other areas with other counters. Having an area that doesn’t include much water . . . I thought we had a great day with 21 species of birds!
Will not bore you with the Starlings or Rock Piegon we saw but the highlights were the 47 Wild Turkey and 2 Snow Buntings. It seemed like a big Black-capped Chickadee year with 42 and 47 House Sparrows. The House Sparrows were a species that almost disappeared from my count area but have made a big come back (yeck)!! Thanks to the individual with the great bird feeder who pulled out 9 Tree Sparrows and a White-throated Sparrow for us!! Common Raven, White-breasted Nuthatch, Red-breasted Nuthatch and Golden-crowned Kinglet were other expected great finds today.
Didn’t make the dinner this evening (since we live so far away) but I can’t wait to hear a tally of all the great birds complied together brought us. I am shooting for the Snow Buntings being a great find this year!!

We love the feeder folk in our count area although we once had a lady come out and threaten us for stopping across the road from her house…we don’t go there any more. lol
