Baltimore Oriole & Fans

By: Pat Coate

My husband and sons grew up fans of the Baltimore Orioles. Over the years we’ve enjoyed games at both Memorial Stadium and Camden Yards. So it was a special pleasure  to spend some time observing the team’s namesake at a nesting site near Jamestown, NY (Audubon location).

The nest was conveniently located near one of the viewing towers. I spent about a ½ hour watching while fairly well hidden by the tower rails. The male was foraging in the nearby trees then would head to the nest. I have some (poor quality) pictures that show him with food.

  2. I love the shots–and the nest is quite beautiful. How does it stay up in the tree?

Very nice shots of a beautiful bird. That nest does look like it is hanging on by a few threads. They are good engineers, too.
