Welcome to the mon@rch nature blog and I hope you join us in some of our nature adventures through the Allegany State Park area!
I am a naturalist, field biologist and nature photographer from the Western New York area. I have started exploring nature writing through this blog and it truly has been fun sharing my numerous adventures with everyone. Thanks to the many other authors that help me with my post and they will be sharing some of their nature explorations.
I have always had a latent interest in birds and photography and have been lucky enough to find time to explore these interests over the last few years. I am very thankful to the Cattaraugus County Bird Club for getting me started, sharing their wealth of knowledge and for their wonderful programs. And many thanks to Tom for letting me share some of my adventures and photos on the Monarch Nature Blog.
Thank you for taking the time visiting and commenting on this blog.

Dear Monarch Blog,
I just saved you on my “favorites” list. I love reading about butterflies, flowers, and everything else Mother Nature provides for us on a daily basis. I will return to see what tomorrow holds!

I was admiring the little spring flowers peeking out from the dead leaves of the forest floor on the weekend. I haven’t seen Spring Beauties yet. After you post, I know I have a week or so before they appear north of the lake. I just found early Bloodroot .

Isn’t that the way it always goes? As we bustle through life, hurrying from one task to the next, all of a sudden we are made aware of some small detail of nature that lifts our spirit and makes our day. Thank you for your observant nature and your camera! Just beautiful!!

Great photos of a beautiful little flower. They seem to be carpeting the woods now.

There is such beauty in the simple things. Very nice images indeed!

Beautiful flower and image. Our Spring Beauties tend to be more white with less pink through the veins. I just photographed some more of them yesterday. I love these little guys for themselves and the promise they deliver.

So that’s what those are called.-I’ve seen them but I didn’t know what to call them. Spring is my favorite season but it gets too hot too quick.

one of my fondest memories as a child was harvesting spring beauties with my grandmother and her sisters. they would make a big salad with them and wilt it with bacon drippings, or just put them on sandwiches. i liked just eating them plain. what a delight to see, and eat as well.
