This morning I went out to do some birding and enjoyed finding the birdies most everywhere!
I quickly found two new birds for 2009 while out on Swamp Road in Randolph, NY. The Blue-winged Teal (CHECK) was my first surprise for the day who were kindly hanging out with the Northern Shovelers!
Not far from the teal was a Common Grackle who arrived making me think it could have possibly been a Rusty . . . . . while looking through the binoculars I happen to see some movement . . . . . (CHECK) my first Common Snipe for 2009! It is funny how once you finally find a snipe, they seem to appear everywhere! I never expected to see that one individual up onto a telephone pole and then further down the road a another handful of snipe out on the mad flats. Snipe happiness I was having!
I also had my first Hermit Thrush for 2009 (CHECK) while driving through Allegany State Park on Thursday. Birds are nicely moving through the area . . . . I sure do love this time of the year knowing more birdies will be arriving soon! I will have my camera in hand ready for the next arrivals!
