Groundhogs Day

Me

To all my blogging friends; I Allegany Tom on the 2nd of February 2009 saw my shadow when I woke up this morning. I predict that we will have 6 more weeks of winter!!

Happy Ground Hogs Day

Not sure why but I love this holiday but I do!! Thanks goodness I am usually wrong with my predictions! Punxsutawney Phil also saw his shadow and is predicting that there will be “six more weeks of winter”!

Gosh Mon@rch. I love the two photos of the Groundhogs. tee hee.. Is there a slight resemblence here? Maybe this is why you like them so. tee hee….. They are sweet looking creatures. I hope you are wrong about the 6 weeks of winter. However even at that it won’t be as long as it has been. Snow was melting here yesterday. You could hear the runoff. Happy Groundhog day.

    Tom-

Although I did not see my shadow this morning, Ohio’s prognosticating ground hog, Buckeye Chuck, did. Groundhog day is definitely one of my favorites, it is really the first real confirmation that we’re on the backside of winter. Let the countdown to spring begin!

  3. I love the photos, especially the first. I didn’t get up early enough to know if I would have seen my shadow, it always seems to cloud up after a couple hours of daylight here near the lake. I’m of the hibernating sort in the winter. I predict if there are 6 weeks of winter left I’ll go crazy.

  5. I saw my shadow here in California too. Here that means six more weeks of no rain. Then the dry season begins! Cute groundhog, very cute.

I thought you were a butterfly?

LOL… glad you and Phil see only six more weeks of winter!

I think we’re done with winter… the birds in breeding plumage and spring flowers sure think so.

  9. I could have sworn I left a comment–I was preparing a Groundhog blog, and saw you had too.
So I gave you a quiet link on mine.
    Happy GHD.

  11. I watched the sun rise this morning in a clear sky and knew we were in for 6 more weeks of winter.

  12. Okay Tom; but I warn you… if you claim this you’ll get the same negative rep that Phil has got in my household today. (My family are all claiming Phil is a narcissistic psychopath and insists the guy needs glasses in all future cartoon images of him..)

Ummm… he’s not popular here after the last six feet of snowfall…

  13. I just knew it would see its shadow and doom us with another 6 weeks of winter. When has the groundhog not seen its shadow?? Perhaps it wasn’t as afraid of its shadow as it was the media circus and news cameras?? I can dream can’t I???

Spring can’t come soon enough for me.

  14. My dad always said, if he sees his shadow, there will be 6 weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, it will only be a month and a half…

  15. @ Lisa – Thanks and Allegany Tom is always a fun guy to hang out with! How much wood would a Allegany Tom Chuck if a Allegany Tom could chuck wood!
    @ Tom – Exactly . . . thanks!
@ Linda – Love the glasses? LOL they were like 15x power glasses!
@ Andrea . . . been planning this post since last year! LOL
    @ Robin – Dry season . . ugg!
    @ Shelley – I know right!
@ Red – Butterfly, birds, Woodchuck . . whatever makes my viewers happy! LOL
@ Threecollie – Exactly . . . hope you don’t mind me quoting you on that!
    @ KGMom – that’s alright . . . I don’t mind all your extra views returning time and time again! 🙂
@ Bird Girl – Now your just making me blush . . . I think since Mr Phil gets pulled out of his hole so early in the morning . . . he can keep the job!
@ Ruth – Exactly right! I was also up before the sun came up!
@ aullori – Poor Allegany Tom getting so insulted like that . . . no wonder Mr. Phil took a bite out of the Mayor of Punxatawny!
@ Kallen – not many media circus around this predictor . . . LOL

Since you are such a good turkey trapper you should be able to catch us a groundhog. We could name him Salamanca Sam and make A.S.P. the official spring predicticing location in the Southern Tier. 😮

  17. And so how does your record compare to Phil’s? :c)

    3 February 2009 at 6:48 am

  18. Our groundhogs are still frozen in the ground here in Minnesota. But if the possum sees its shadow, does that count? Either way, I’m sure we’ve easily got 6 more weeks of winter left.
P.S. I like your cool eyeglasses!

    3 February 2009 at 10:37 am

  19. Every time I hear that, I think 6 more weeks of winter doesn’t sound too bad. We finally got a little snow (about 1 inch).

    4 February 2009 at 8:43 am

  20. So then, you say you’re afraid of your shadow?? Tsk tsk.
