The Owls Have Arrived

Northern Saw-whet Owl
Northern Saw-whet Owl

We caught our first of the year Northern Saw-whet Owl Saturday night! Been a slow start to their movement but I believe that is due to warmer temperatures and the bright moon shining down on the nets. Their numbers should be picking up in a week or two as soon as the moon starts rising later in the evening!

Many thanks to Kyle and Young Naturalist J with Owl Banding this weekend!

HiMon@rch, It is good to see that you are banding again. I am surprised that the sawwhets are back. I guess because it is so darned hot and dry here that it feels like mid summer. That is to change soon. Like I said it is good to see some sweet little owls.

  4. Oh, the owls! I love seeing your photos of them. I can’t believe your park has already reached peak and we missed it. We talked about going last weekend but opted for Oil Creek instead. I figured it would be another week at least.
