House Wren Pair
The local house wren has been singing up a storm recently. I think it has something to do with the female teasing the male with her busyness in filling the multiple neighboring bluebird boxes with sticks!

The only House Wren I’ve ever seen was the one we banded at Presque Isle and I think it was the day you were there. They are much smaller than I thought they’d be. They are darling little birds. Great shots of the wrens!

Growing up, my grandmother read a series of books to my sisters and me that started with “The Bluebirds and their Neighbors” and continued on with “The Mallards and their Neighbors” etc. There was a “character” in the books called “Jenny Wren” who behaved just like your wrens–noisy, funny, sometimes annoying. Your story reminded me about those books. A happy memory =)

A great series of photos, Tom.
(The male may be singing a different tune after the eggs are laid and hatched.)

Yep, there is a lot of this going on here too. I figure they are going to have a second brood.
