Welcome to the mon@rch nature blog and I hope you join us in some of our nature adventures through the Allegany State Park area!
I am a naturalist, field biologist and nature photographer from the Western New York area. I have started exploring nature writing through this blog and it truly has been fun sharing my numerous adventures with everyone. Thanks to the many other authors that help me with my post and they will be sharing some of their nature explorations.
I have always had a latent interest in birds and photography and have been lucky enough to find time to explore these interests over the last few years. I am very thankful to the Cattaraugus County Bird Club for getting me started, sharing their wealth of knowledge and for their wonderful programs. And many thanks to Tom for letting me share some of my adventures and photos on the Monarch Nature Blog.
Thank you for taking the time visiting and commenting on this blog.

It’s just beautiful and so soft looking. You really get to see so much out there!

Oh, Tom. Beautiful! My heart would burst to have the opportunity to take that photo…then I’d screw it up.
27 May 2008 at 10:45 pm
Oh my word! How did you ever make such a find? Just the right place at the right time? That’s awesome!
27 May 2008 at 10:52 pm
How sweet! No doubt there was an anxious mother nearby watching as you happened upon her baby.

Love it! They are so precious.

Great shot. Can you describe the circumstances of the shot, I’d be interested. I’ve been looking for a shot like yours since forever. To this point in time I only seem to get the other end of the cycle.

Oh. My. Goodness. So sweet. I saw two fawns last week — of course, no camera in sight! Sigh. Thanks for sharing the love!

@ Shelley – thanks and glad you enjoyed!
@ Linda – thanks and helps that I am outside all the time!
@ Mary – thanks and I do my share of screwing up!
@ Amy – actually . . . . I found two fawns today! First one I didn’t bother and this one just pulled the 400mm out for a shot!
@ Rondi – without a doubt mom was near by as I captured these pictures with the 400mm! The first fawn I saw today, I just ignored and would have only had a butt shot!
@ rvewong – Helps to be around where they are located! Many times I actually almost step on them while walking through the woods! This one I happen to notice a good distance away! Pulled the camera out and took the picture!
@ Liza – they are so fun to see! Glad you have the memories!

Oh how did you find this little thing? Beautiful shot! I have never actually seen one with the spots… they stop hiding over here just about the time they are “spotless.” This had to be a joyful event. Brilliant work!

You have very interesting woods to walk through – and not at a distance, very lucky. It is wonderful that you are taking full advantage of it and sharing your encounters.
