Welcome to the mon@rch nature blog and I hope you join us in some of our nature adventures through the Allegany State Park area!
I am a naturalist, field biologist and nature photographer from the Western New York area. I have started exploring nature writing through this blog and it truly has been fun sharing my numerous adventures with everyone. Thanks to the many other authors that help me with my post and they will be sharing some of their nature explorations.
I have always had a latent interest in birds and photography and have been lucky enough to find time to explore these interests over the last few years. I am very thankful to the Cattaraugus County Bird Club for getting me started, sharing their wealth of knowledge and for their wonderful programs. And many thanks to Tom for letting me share some of my adventures and photos on the Monarch Nature Blog.

Nice. You must be surrounded by flocks.
BTW, the ice depth in Wisconsin (for ice fishing, of course) is down a little – probably about 30 inches.

What a brilliant shot – I love the DOF on this baby. It created the perfect background to the this little guy. For the record you have got me searching so hard for one of these! I’ve got little red breasted guys everywhere but so far have not seen even one of these friendly little guys. I’m looking tho!

One of our white-breasted nuthatches gave me hope over the weekend that spring might not be far off here in the Shenandoah Valley. I noticed the bird going into a birdhouse that had been used last year by titmice. The nuthatch would bring out big material like part of a leaf and just let it go in the wind. But when it came out with finer material that must have come from the lining of the titmouse nest, it went out and wedged it into loose bark on the dead oak tree or stuck it between the nest box and the tree. The material was still there this morning, but I hope it will be used before too long.

The pose of your nuthatch reminds me of when dogs pose at dog shows. I give him a 10! Nice form!
