Happy New Year Everyone!

Happy New Year from mon@rch

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year from all of us here at Mon@rch Nature Blog!

Bald Eagle
Bald Eagle along the Allegheny River

Today I went searching for a Golden Eagle that was reported in Allegany State Park yesterday. Didn’t find the Golden but as expected found multiple Bald Eagles flying around. I stopped to photograph this one Bald Eagle through the trees and then realized that something seemed wrong with my truck after pulling away! The vehicle would not stop when I stepped on my brakes!! That is the scariest feeling I have felt in a very long time (besides when I thought the Coyotes were going to eat me but I will save that story for my end of the year mammal report)!! Yep, my brake-line blew and I had no brakes!! Lucky I was in the middle of no-where and was only two stop signs way from my repair guy!! I was scheduled to have my rotors and brake pads replaced on Wednesday. Since I am not seeing my truck again till next Thursday . . . why not include a new brake-line to the list needed repairs!! Ugg, Happy New Year Everyone and my day of birding was cut short!

  4. Geez, that must have been unnerving! Glad all’s well that ended well. At least you got to see a few eagles before the brakes went south.

  6. That is so scary. I had my brakes fail once but I was pulling up slowly to the curb of my apartment. It hit the curb a little hard but stopped. My first car, it was a real clunker. I’m glad you are OK. Be glad you found the problem out in the middle of nowhere. The bald eagle pic is great. I sure hope you do get to see a golden eagle in your area.

    Happy New Year!

  9. I got to thinking what the title of your story might be….”I brake for????” “Breakless in NY” “I used to brake for birds” “What stop sign?”…..I’m glad it worked out alright. Nothing like an adrenalin rush to end the year! Have a great 2008.

@ Marg – Not that bad was more mad than anything! Just more money that I need to dish out on my Truck! LOL and in 2008 I willprobably see many of them!
@ Toni – thanks and took a few hours of photoshoping to make it look the way I wanted it to! You can see the original on this site! Actually I was about 20-30 miles away from my mechanic but just drove almost all that along the highway which involved no stopping!
@ Vern – I like the “I try to brake for the bird’s” ! LOL Thanks
@ Jayne – Thanks and glad things worked out!

  13. Wow – that must have been a scary feeling. I thought that there was a back-up for things like that? I guess there is always the emergency brake, right? Glad you made it to the repair shop safely.

    Hey!
Happy New Year. I see 2007 ended with a bang for you. Sorry, about your vehicle. I hope 2008 goes well. Much snow down there in the Southern Tier? Buffalo has nothing. Amazing huh? With this “global warming-esque” weather you may be able to see a Bird of Paradise in Allegeny soon enough. (Wish it was possible.)

Lucky break with the brakes!-Could have been on a busy highway.-I only saw a Golden Eagle really well once.-It was before I was actively in to birding.
Now I want to get a good look at an adult again.
