Welcome to the mon@rch nature blog and I hope you join us in some of our nature adventures through the Allegany State Park area!
I am a naturalist, field biologist and nature photographer from the Western New York area. I have started exploring nature writing through this blog and it truly has been fun sharing my numerous adventures with everyone. Thanks to the many other authors that help me with my post and they will be sharing some of their nature explorations.
I have always had a latent interest in birds and photography and have been lucky enough to find time to explore these interests over the last few years. I am very thankful to the Cattaraugus County Bird Club for getting me started, sharing their wealth of knowledge and for their wonderful programs. And many thanks to Tom for letting me share some of my adventures and photos on the Monarch Nature Blog.
Thank you for taking the time visiting and commenting on this blog.

I’m struck by the dark stripe through the eye area of the birds in the first two of these photos. Once Mother Nature figured out that pattern she used it widely: Lots of tropical reef fish species sport a stripe across their eye, too.

It is always such a treat to stop by your place and see the wondrous birds.
I enjoy seeing them being gently held by you or your helpers.
Thanks, as always, for sharing.

Are the Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers quiet birds to hold or do they peck like other woodpeckers? Nice collection of birds! You guys must have so much fun.

I love seeing the close ups of your birds, do they really sit still when their feet are held, do they struggle or are they calm? Thanks for sharing them with us.

I always love coming here for my dose of birds. For some reason I’m surprised at the yellow bellied sapsucker. I thought the yellow would be brighter and didn’t expect such a red head.

I love the variety of birds you band. Keep hoping to get a good photo of the sapsucker – they are too fast for me!

@ KGMom – thanks and you are very kind! Glad you enjoyed!
@ Linda – well normally the Sapsuckers draw Tom sap from my hand whenever I capture pictures like this but this guy was more interested in everyone around them! Thanks and we only know the fun way to enjoy life!
