Budding Birders – Florida: The Final Chapter
By: Pat Coate
This is the last posting on my nieces’ and nephew’s trip to Vero Beach, Florida in early April. I had taken a similar trip the prior year and had pictures of many of the animals they saw while visiting. The kids liked seeing all the birds that they don’t get to see at home. And they really liked seeing the gators.
On the airboat ride you can get really close to the alligators. Part of the airboat ride is old farmland that has been flooded over. You really hope that Captain Bob knows where all the old fence posts and stumps are because you really don’t want the boat to overturn around here.
The kids got to see newly hatched babies. They were only 6 inches long and had a stripe on their back. Captain Bob told them the mother laid 50 eggs at once.

Sorry Tom, but that doesn’t look like any wood stork I’ve seen. 😉
