Killfawns
The most adorable Killfawn ever photographed!!
Yesterday I had to do a double take with some Killdeer that were on the side of the road. . . . I said “Look a bunch of Killfawns”!!! This pair of Killdeer had 4 baby killdeer running beside them! This photo series is pretty much what happened within the following minute!
Killdeer and Killfawns were together and then I pulled up with my vehicle!
Killfawns go every which direction
They stop to listen for mom’s next direction!
Hey Mom . . . Wait for us! . . . . Where are you going?
Hey Brother-Sister . . . where did mom go? . . . . Chirp!
Mom and Dad is down the road . . .
. . . . displaying a broken wing and attracting me away.
Babies make it safe into the grass where the Photographer couldn’t find them!

Hey TLBFC members!
Let’s hear it for Tom – the OOOAAA! (the Object Of Our Admiration, Appreciation and Affection!
Another great post!
17 June 2008 at 8:22 pm
I like it-I’m going to start using it too 🙂
17 June 2008 at 8:25 pm
Oh, so adorable! When we lived in Ohio years ago, Kildeer used to always have “nests” in our back yard. I loved watching the “fawns” (great name) and was intrigued by the broken wing trick of the parents. Great series of photos! Loved it!
17 June 2008 at 8:28 pm
Now these fawns are adorable. I remember picking up one and they are as light as air.
17 June 2008 at 8:59 pm
Great series Tom,
I am still in Cleveland and I called Noreen and had her look on the computer at home. Between the Eagle/Osprey duel and this series you have had quite a week. Very Nice

After the eagle/osprey battle, I didn’t think you could top yourself. But you did.
Killfawn–LOL! But sweet, and it fits.
17 June 2008 at 9:44 pm
They are the cutest baby birds ever! And your pictures are so good.
17 June 2008 at 9:45 pm
That is an adorable series and narrative Tom!
Bravo!
17 June 2008 at 9:52 pm
I’m totally loving those photos! It should be a children’s book with these pictures. Those are just the cutest Killdeer I’ve ever seen.
17 June 2008 at 10:42 pm
I don’t think I have ever seen a bird like this or heard of it either. Really neat!

17 June 2008 at 10:52 pm
Too utterly adorable! Killfawns. Adorable! 🙂
17 June 2008 at 11:41 pm
Killfawns – I love it! Great photos of a wonderful bird. It’s amazing watching the parents do the broken wing dance to lead any threats away from their young.
17 June 2008 at 11:48 pm
Oh, how adorable! Those are really spectacular pictures! I see a lot of killdeer around here but have never seen the babies before.
18 June 2008 at 12:51 am
Tom, what camera did you use for these shots? That’s incredible. I loved it, and it reminded me of the killdeer I saw a year ago who were nesting near a busy road in my neighborhood. I would have loved to have seen them again this year. But I’ll relive my memories through your photos for now. BTW, I only saw 2 “killfawn” with mom and dad last year. This mom and dad have their “wings” full, don’t they?
18 June 2008 at 1:21 am
That was totally adorable and another good reason to always have the camera with you. Thanks for a happy chuckle first thing in the morning.

Maybe you should think about getting the sailboat, if it is reasonable. If I had one I would probably be on it every weekend.

18 June 2008 at 1:06 pm

You sure captured the Killdeer in all its glory! Do young birds get ANY CUTER than that? I don’t think so! Bravo, Tom!
18 June 2008 at 11:18 pm
Fantastic series. If you had been in a hide waiting for hours you could not have asked for any better opportunity than this. (Giving that 400mm lens a good workout again, eh? I covet that lens!!)

Awww.
Such cute killfawns. I miss the ones that used to lay eggs in our rocky pasture. Now that the grass has filled in, it’s a less-desirable spot.
Your photos here are wonderful–I agree: one of your cutest posts ever!
19 June 2008 at 11:21 pm

Killfawns ! That is great. Thanks for the chuckle. Some where in my archives I have some pics like this. I think I might go searching for them. I love the babies when they first leave the nest. They look like ping pong balls on stilts!
22 June 2008 at 11:27 pm
I love the way the fuzz out of focus at the edges.
24 June 2008 at 2:55 pm
